What is included in the PDF?

The workbook covers five common communication tasks:

1. Telling a past story: choose between the preterite, imperfect and past perfect.
2. Expressing an opinion: agree, disagree and support a point with reasons.
3. Solving an everyday problem: make polite requests and confirm details.
4. Using conversation phrases: connect ideas with common expressions.
5. Giving advice: use the conditional and recommendations with the present subjunctive.

It also includes a mixed review, a three-minute speaking task, a writing task, a short progress check and a complete answer key.

Who is this workbook for?

The lessons are written mainly for learners at B1 and B2.

• At B1, use the dialogues as models and check unfamiliar vocabulary before completing the exercises.
• At B2, complete the tasks without looking back, then make your speaking and writing answers more precise.
• At A2, you can use the workbook with a teacher or dictionary, but some grammar and vocabulary will be difficult.

A simple five-day plan

You can complete the workbook in five days:

• Day 1: Read the dialogue twice and underline useful language.
• Day 2: Review the vocabulary and grammar explanation.
• Day 3: Complete the written exercises without checking the answer key.
• Day 4: Record the speaking task and listen to your answer once.
• Day 5: Check your answers and repeat the sections you found difficult.

Write full answers where possible. For example, do not write only sí or no when a task asks for an opinion. Add a reason and a specific example.

Lesson 1: Tell a clear past story

The first lesson uses a cancelled train journey to practise three past tenses.

• Use the imperfect for background and actions in progress: esperaba el tren.
• Use the preterite for completed events: empezó a llover.
• Use the past perfect for an event that happened earlier: lo habían cancelado.

The exercises ask you to select the correct tense, order a short story and write about an unexpected situation.

Lesson 2: Express and support an opinion

The second lesson presents a discussion about remote work. It shows how to give a clear opinion without repeating creo que in every sentence.

You will practise phrases such as hasta cierto punto, sin embargo, coincido contigo and lo importante es. The final task asks you to give an opinion, two reasons, an example and one opposing point of view.

Lesson 3: Solve an everyday problem

The third lesson uses a phone call about a broken water heater. It focuses on polite but clear requests.

Compare the direct instruction envíen a alguien with the polite request ¿podrían enviar a alguien? You will also practise questions such as ¿me confirma que...? and ¿habría alguna posibilidad de...?

The role-play gives you a practical situation involving a faulty rental bicycle. You must ask for a repair, replacement or refund.

Lesson 4: Use common conversation phrases

The fourth lesson introduces short expressions that organise spoken Spanish:

pues	Gain time before answering
es que	Introduce an explanation
de hecho	Add supporting information
qué va	Disagree informally
total	Introduce a practical conclusion

The exercises require you to choose each expression by its function. Do not translate each phrase word for word.

Lesson 5: Give clear advice

The final lesson combines two common structures:

• Conditional advice: yo empezaría, podrías probar and si yo fuera tú.
• Recommendation plus subjunctive: te recomiendo que prepares and conviene que grabes.

The exercises ask you to give specific advice to three learners with different problems. You then write a short response that includes empathy, two recommendations and a way to measure progress.

Use the PDF for speaking practice

A printed workbook cannot provide listening feedback, but it can help you prepare and repeat useful language. Read each dialogue aloud, record the speaking prompts and compare your first and second attempts.
